Integrity & Bumper Stickers
I saw a bumper sticker (on an SUV) today that said "Restore Integrity, Vote Republican". Hmmm. Which integrity?

Is that the marital integrity of Republican Newt Gingrich, who served his wife with divorce papers while she was in the hospital fighting cancer? Apparently, he preferred the company of his secretary. (You remember Newt; he was all in favor of impeaching Clinton for his affair with Monica. Someone call the hypocrisy police!)

Or the fiscal integrity of Republican George W. Bush, who discarded the balanced budget in favor of tax cuts for the super-wealthy, thereby subjecting us to an ever-increasing deficit? I can name the last Democrat that balanced the federal budget: Clinton. Can you name the last Republican that did as much? Anyone?

Or maybe the congressional integrity of Republicans who attached a rider onto a bill AFTER it was passed? See, Congress voted to pass this bill. When a bill is passed, it goes to a committee where the language is finalized and it's basically cleaned up. Well, while the bill was in this committee, someone added a bit. Seems some parents were going to sue this pharmaceutical company for the damage it's drug "allegedly" did to their kids. Well, now it's illegal for them to do so. Democrats were outraged and demanded to know how this rider was added. Republicans are claiming ignorance. Uh-huh. Oh, and this committee? It operates in secret, behind closed doors.

Or perhaps it means the personal integrity of Repulicans talking the talk and walking the walk? Like how W said leave no child behind, and then cut education funding. Or W's speech about raising environmental standards and then introducing the Clear Skies Intitiative, which lowers environmental standards. Or... well, you get the idea.

Or how about the integrity of Republicans using forged documents to "prove" we needed to invade Iraq? Just about every "reason" they've given for this war has been exposed as lies. Colin Powell's interpretation of those satellite photos? Wrong. Documents proving Iraq tried to purchase uranium from Niger? Forged. Saddam's ties to Al Qaeda? Non-existent. Iraq complicit in 9/11? Nope. Weapons of mass destruction? Never found. Chemical & biological weapons factories? Ditto.

So, what integrity, exactly?
